ABOUT CONFERENCE

We are pleased to announce that the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, under the auspices of University of Montenegro will be hosting the 3rd Southeast European Ichthyological Conference (SEEIC 2025). The conference will be held from October 8 to 11, 2025 in Bar, Montenegro. This year, SEEIC2025 is honoring the late Dr. Djoko Drecun, the first Montenegrin ichthyologist and the founder of not only modern Montenegrin ichthyology but also ichthyology in the broader Southeastern European region.

SEEIC 2025 offers an excellent opportunity for researchers from the Southeast Europe and interested in the region’s ichthyofauna to meet and share their research findings, ideas and proposals. Scientists, students, managers, decision-makers and other professionals in ichthyology and fisheries are invited to participate in this event.

The oral and poster presentations covering variety of topics on History of Ichthyology, Taxonomy and Systematics, Biodiversity and Conservation, Biology and Ecology, Molecular Biology, Invasive Species and Fisheries and Aquaculture will be taken into consideration for the conference program.


This year, SEEIC2025 is honoring the late Dr. Djoko Drecun, the first Montenegrin ichthyologist and the founder of not only modern Montenegrin ichthyology but also ichthyology in the broader Southeastern European region.

The Organizing Committee also wishes to use this conference as an opportunity to honor and commemorate the memory of the late Dr. Borivoj Knežević, who was the first in Montenegro to initiate a new era in ichthyological research. In addition to traditional ichthyological techniques and methods, he was the first to apply modern approaches from the fields of cytology and cytogenetics during the 1980s.

Bar is also known for its long history of olive cultivation, with some of the oldest olive trees in the world found in the region. Visitors can tour olive groves and sample local olive oil, a true delicacy of the area. The town also hosts cultural events and festivals throughout the year, where visitors can experience traditional music, dance, and art.

Abstracts for proposed oral and poster presentation (up to 2.000 characters including spaces) should be forwarded to the Conference organizers by registration link (in section About Conference →Submission).

a) Important Information for Oral Presentation

In order to ensure a smooth performance during your oral session, we kindly ask you to consider the following instructions:

Time allocated to oral presentations is 15 minutes, please note that this includes set-up and questions. Due to large number of presentations – please keep strictly to these limits. Recommended aspect ratio of slides is 16:9. Other aspect ratios are also supported. Be at the session room 15 minutes before session starts and introduce yourself to the session chairs. Bring your presentation on a USB memory stick in MS-PowerPoint or Adobe PDF formats, and upload it in the Session Room computer no later than 2 hours prior to your session start! You can also bring it earlier, during the coffee/lunch breaks of any days before your presentation. A volunteer will be at your disposal to help you to upload it in the right file in order to find it easily at the time of presentation. In order to avoid any compatibility problems, read carefully the instructions below.

b) PowerPoint Instructions

For MS-PowerPoint presentations, please use the following versions only: PP 97-20019 (*.ppt) or later to guarantee that it will be opened successfully on the on-site PC We recommend to use the PPT/PPTX format instead of PPS All videos or animations in the presentation must run automatically!

c) Pictures/Videos

We cannot provide support for embedded videos in your presentation; please test your presentation with the on-site PC several hours before your presentation. Generally, the WMV format should work with no difficulties. In case your video is not inserted in MS-PowerPoint, it is possible to have it in other formats – MPEG 2,4, AVI (codecs: DivX, XviD, h264) or WMV. Suggested bitrate for all mpeg4 based codecs is about 1 Mbps with SD PAL resolution (1024x576pix with square pixels, AR: 16/9).

d) Fonts

Only fonts that are included in the basic installation of MS-Windows will be available (English version of Windows). Use of other fonts not included in Windows can cause wrong layout/style of your presentation. If you insist on using different fonts, these must be embedded into your presentation by choosing the right option when saving your presentation:

Click on “File”, then “Save As” Check the “Tools” menu and select “Embed True Type Fonts”

d) Poster Presentation

The poster for presentation of the research is made on A0 paper format (118x84cm- portrait) and must not exceed the specific dimensions. Bellow the header of the paper, in the appropriate text fields, the title of the abstract must be entered, and data about the author/authors and institutions. Prescribed font size and styles:

The title of work – Cambria, 86pt, Centered; Information about author/authors and institution/institutions- Cambria, 56 pt, Centered Authors are recommended that the poster contain the following units:

e) Publication

The peer-reviewed full-text papers from the conference which correspond aim and scope of journals will be published in the following journals: Acta Adriatica or Studia Marina (marine ecosystem) Croatian Journal of Fisheries (freshwater ecosystems). The deadline for sending a list of abstracts whose authors are interested in preparing a paper for Acta Adriatica would be 1.11.2025. Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the the editorial office of the journal Acta Adriatica, and the authors will be notified by December 1, 2026 whether the abstract has been accepted. The deadline for sending complete papers (for accepted abstracts) is 1 February 2026. Accepted papers will be published in 2026, with an indication that they are papers from the congress.
